Winner of the tallest sunflower competition

photo 2 sunflower and beegiovanna entry photo 1 ver2 Congratulations to Giovanna and Lexie for growing the tallest sunflowers in Orchard Park. Their winning entry came in at 3m high. Their pots of flowers look great and will be useful to wildlife, as the photo with the bee shows. They’ll be receiving their voucher, kindly donated by Scotsdales Garden Centre, later this week.

Thanks to Giovanna for providing all of the photos for this post.

Wildlife gardening tips from the Royal Horticultural Society

sunflower competitionHave a look at the RHS website and video for wildlife gardening tips, they also make recommendations for small gardens.

Not long now before the date for you to submit your sunflower pictures. I hope you’ve had better luck than me, several seedlings were eaten by slugs or snails, and a well established dwarf sunflower given as a gift sadly met the same fate.
