Almost 60% of urban plant and animal species have declined – 35% seriously – since the 1970s, with the loss of gardens, sports fields and parks having an impact.

Animals like hedgehogs, bats and several urban bird species have suffered from the loss of connected wild areas, stopping them from moving from place to place.
